Frequently Asked Questions
Firstly, we are not a company. We’re a driver majority-owned multi-stakeholder cooperative, where a large group of drivers came together to create a better alternative, where the voices of all drivers are being heard. This original group of hundreds of drivers in California, who purchased their co-op memberships, is what allowed us to purchase the insurance and TNC license to launch in California. For those of you interested in trying our app without paying, we have a free membership option where you get 55% of the fares (after insurance, tax and credit card fee), with no share (compared to 85-90% of the fare for member-owners). Free members who have driven with us for a month and would like to become members, would be able to purchase their membership based on the market price.
We have a marketing package available here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ARNSdB7FFx45n82LIomHNSMcHjbmXaYD?usp=sharing
To edit and add your referral code, use Adobe Acrobat Pro (free trial): https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/free-trial-download.html
As soon as we have enough drivers signed up in your state, we will start a membership drive at $100 per membership, which will go towards purchasing the rideshare insurance and license(s) we need in your state to go live. For a partial list of membership requirements in most states, please see above.
We are aiming to launch the food delivery, in any city where we have at least 50 restaurants, within a month after launching the rideshare there, to ensure that we have enough drivers available. In the meantime, you still have the option to deliver packages through our rideshare app!
Whether you’re a driver, or a passenger, or a business, you can help by referring more people to the platform, today! If you’re a driver, share your referral code (found in your app menu under Referral) with other drivers, customers and businesses to have them register under you, and earn commissions every time they complete an order! Watch our referral video for more information.
In California, we already purchased commercial insurance for all our members with full coverage for periods 1-3. Drivers who have their own commercial insurance and TCP license fall under the Black and Black SUV categories, where no additional insurance is charged to the customers on those rides. In other states, we do not currently have insurance and if you are a private-for-hire driver with your own commercial or fleet insurance, you are eligible to book rides through our app.
Yes, you can. We accept any valid vehicle inspections from certified mechanics, as long as they have been completed within the last 12 months. If you need to complete a vehicle inspection, you can download the inspection form here.
The car must generally be 15 years old or newer. So, in 2024, this means your vehicle should be from 2009 or newer.

Unlike Uber or Lyft, Fare Co-op is a referral-based platform. That means simply being online doesn’t automatically bring you rides. Here’s how you build a successful business with us:
Refer your customers – Every time you give a ride on Uber or Lyft, share your personal referral code and invite them to download the Fare Co-op app.
Get marked as their Favorite Driver – When your riders mark you as their favorite in the app, you’ll receive their requests first whenever they book. This ensures you build a reliable base of repeat customers.
Grow your network – The more riders and drivers you refer, the stronger your customer base becomes. Many drivers who consistently refer 15–20 riders a day see 10–15 rides daily within a couple of weeks.
Here’s why this matters: Uber and Lyft treat drivers like disposable workers—they control the rides, take a large cut, and can deactivate you at any time. Their long-term plan is to replace drivers with autonomous vehicles, leaving you without income.
Fare Co-op is different. This is your business. As a driver-owner, you earn 85% of every ride from day one (or 55% as a fractional member with the ability to grow to 85%+ by referring riders). You also share in the growth of the cooperative’s value, building true ownership for your future. And unlike other platforms that charge high monthly fees without ownership, Fare Co-op gives you both control and long-term equity.
Most importantly, you also earn referral commissions every time your riders or referred drivers use the app—even if you aren’t the one giving them the ride. This means your income can grow into passive revenue that continues even when you’re not on the road.

The estimated earnings are based on the Google Maps estimation of the total trip distance and time. The actual earnings are calculated based on the actual distance and time traveled. Therefore, they may be discrepancies between the two, especially if you have taken shortcuts or detours. The most accurate calculation of the actual fare is shown on the final ride invoice at the end of the trip.
